Photo Art by Roy provides a unique service in the Asheville, NC, area and beyond. At your event we photograph your attendees and transform their portraits into one-of-a-kind works of art.
We set up at your location and photograph those people you choose. We then apply special effects and a background to each photograph according to the subject's preferences. Select the "process" link above to see a demonstration.
Do not confuse these with cell phone photographs. These are high-quality high-resolution images suitable for printing. Equipment currently used includes Nikon digital SLR cameras, Canon PIXMA printers, Toshiba laptops and Adobe software.
The final images are printed and framed on the spot. In addition to the prints, you will be given digital copies of the images.
You provide the subjects to be photographed, the location and electricity. We provide everything else (including lighting, the backdrop, camera equipment, computer, printer, chairs, a table, etc.).

- The service continues until either the maximum time or maximum number of prints is reached, whichever comes first. At your request, arrangements can be made to continue later at additional cost.
- More than one person may be included in a single photograph at your request. However many people are in the photograph, that is how many prints of the same image will be made. This counts towards the total number of prints for your package. (Note that resetting lighting, posing more than one person and finding effects and backgrounds that are agreeable to all takes additional time.)
- Additional prints may be made at your request, either counting towards the maximum number of prints for your package or for an additional cost -- your choice.
- Larger prints, posters, books, mugs, etc. are available as well, though these will not be created at the event and are at additional cost.
- The resulting images are for private, non-commercial use only. Commercial licenses and high-resolution digital files are available at additional cost.
- We will not publish, in print or electronically, photos from your event without your permission.
- A little history: This was originally done without charge at a fundraiser for a nonprofit arts organization in the Boston area in 2012. You may see a few photos from that event (posted with the permission of those photographed) on a Facebook page here.
Roy Rubinstein has been doing photography most of his life and began darkroom work at around the age of 10. He has had a photo exhibit and has had his photos appear in books, periodicals and CD artwork.
His graphic work includes posters, flyers, buttons, CD artwork (labels and booklets) and web sites, and he has taught web design.
Roy also has a PhD in Computer Science and has been a full-time university professor.
